As a leading Linux operating system distribution in China, deepin has been committed to providing users with broader hardware support and actively participating in the vibrant construction of the RISC-V ecosystem. Since the establishment of the deepin-ports SIG (Special Interest Group), deepin has achieved remarkable results in the adaptation of the RISC-V architecture, now successfully supporting most mainstream platforms and development boards on the market, injecting new vitality into the Linux operating system ecosystem.

Recently, the deepin (Deep OS) community announced the successful inclusion of the self-developed SpacemiT MUSE™ Box in the support list, achieving stable operation of the RISC-V version of deepin V23 on it, once again confirming deepin's commitment and strength to the RISC-V ecosystem. The combination of the compact and powerful terminal device SpacemiT MUSE™ Box and the elegant, easy-to-use deepin V23 operating system is bound to bring developers and users an unprecedented desktop experience.

SpacemiT MUSE™ Box

SpacemiT MUSE™ Box is an exquisite and compact yet powerful RISC-V terminal device, equipped with the world's first 8-core RISC-V AI CPU developed by Jin Die Time Space, known as the SpacemiT Key Stone™ K1 processor (hereinafter referred to as K1). It is understood that the single-core and total computing power of K1 is more than 130% of that of similar ARM A55 chips (a mainstream ARM chip), which can significantly reduce the cost of computing power. In addition, based on the standard Mini ITX motherboard, SpacemiT MUSE™ Box is also equipped with a variety of rich interfaces, including USB, DP&HDMI, Ethernet, etc., capable of meeting the various needs of developers and users.

deepin V23 & SpacemiT MUSE™ Box

The deepin image adapted for SpacemiT MUSE™ Box this time is based on the latest deepin V23 RC2 mainline and features a 6.1 kernel optimized for SpacemiT Key Stone™ K1, striving to provide users with the best performance and experience. The deepin-ports SIG team has conducted comprehensive testing of the system, and the results show that deepin V23 runs stably on the MUSE box, with normal operation in network connections, USB device access, and HDMI video output. The DDE desktop environment and pre-installed applications also run stably and can be updated synchronously with the mainline version, bringing users a consistent experience across other architectures (amd64/arm64/loong64).

Pre-installed Software List

To facilitate quick start for users and to experience the full functionality of deepin V23, the following software is pre-installed in the image:

  1. Kernel and Drivers: The 6.1.15 kernel, integrated with the GPU drivers and common hardware drivers required for SpacemiT MUSE™ Box, ensures the system is ready to use out of the box.
  2. System Basics: Includes basic tools such as sudo, networkmanager, etc., making it convenient for users to manage the system and configure the network.
  3. Desktop Experience: A complete deepin desktop environment (DDE), providing users with a comfortable operational experience. DDE is a desktop environment independently developed by deepin, known for its aesthetics, ease of use, and efficiency, and is highly favored by the majority of Linux users.
  4. Practical Tools: Common tools such as fastfetch, vim, bash-completion, etc., are pre-installed, making it convenient for developers and advanced users.

Note: To reduce the size of the image, making it convenient for users to download and burn, the image only includes the necessary applications. Users can install other applications online using the pre-installed app store or the apt command. deepin has a rich software repository, where users can easily find the software they need.

deepin-ports SIG

The deepin  community has officially added the SpacemiT MUSE™ Box to the list of devices supported by deepin V23 RISC-V, continuously providing it with software updates and performance optimizations to ensure users have the best experience. To allow more users on hardware platforms to experience deepin, the deepin-ports SIG has been committed to porting the deepin operating system to more hardware platforms and architectures, providing ongoing maintenance and updates, and creating a richer deepin ecosystem experience for users.

During the adaptation process, deepin-ports has also built additional software repositories for RISC-V devices such as the SpacemiT MUSE™ Box, to provide some proprietary drivers and customized features, such as onboard GPU graphics acceleration and a customized deepin kernel, further enhancing the user experience. These additional software repositories have provided a better experience for developers and users and have also strongly supported the development of deepin on the RISC-V platform.

deepin will continue to firmly support the development of the RISC-V ecosystem and continue to expand support for more RISC-V devices, accelerating the improvement of the RISC-V architecture desktop ecosystem.

Release Plan for Versions

Due to the differences in user experience and stability between the RISC-V version and other architecture versions such as amd64/arm64, deepin V23 will release the RISC-V images in the following table format.

Version Type Description Target Audience.
Testing A version for hardware and software adaptation and preliminary testing, which may not have fully refined features and could have known issues. Primarily targeted at developers and early adopters.
Preview The ports architecture (riscv64/loong64) adaptation offers a preview version that has completed the development and testing of the main features, possessing a certain level of stability. Targeted at a broader range of developers and users who wish to experience new versions ahead of the general release.
Stable The stable version adapted for the official architecture (amd64/arm64) has undergone comprehensive testing and possesses a high degree of stability and reliability. Suitable for users who need it for daily use.

The version released this time is a Preview version. Subsequent Preview images will be updated based on the official version and the support status of the corresponding devices, and unstable updates used for testing (Testing) will be released irregularly.
