Recently, the deepin community announced the successful adaptation of the Eswin Computing EIC7700X, achieving the stable operation of the RISC-V version of deepin V23. This move once again confirms deepin's commitment and strength to the RISC-V ecosystem, and also opens the door to a brand new desktop experience for developers and users.

EIC7700X

The EIC7700X is a powerful RISC-V intelligent computing System on Chip (SoC), equipped with a 64-bit out-of-order execution RISC-V processor and a proprietary high-efficiency Neural Processing Unit (NPU), offering a peak computing power of 19.95 TOPS, with the dual-die version reaching up to 39.9 TOPS. It supports full-stack floating-point computation, fully accelerating generative large models. It is compatible with H.264 and H.265 video encoding and decoding standards, has strong audio and video processing capabilities, and is equipped with a rich set of peripheral interfaces, providing efficient and intelligent computing solutions for industries such as AI PCs and industrial vision.

deepin V23 Runs On the EIC7700X

The deepin image adapted for Eswin Computing's EIC7700X is based on the latest deepin V23 RC2 mainline, utilizing the ESWIN open-source kernel 6.6, which is optimized for the EIC7700X, to provide users with the best performance and experience. After comprehensive testing by the deepin-ports Special Interest Group (SIG) team, deepin V23 has been found to run stably on the EIC7700X, with excellent performance in network connectivity, USB device access, HDMI video output, and other functionalities. The DDE desktop environment and pre-installed applications also run stably and can be updated in sync with the mainline version, ensuring users always have the latest features and security patches. This ensures a consistent user experience across other architectures (amd64/arm64/loong64).

◉  Pre-installed Software List

For the convenience of users to quickly get started and experience the full functionality of deepin V23, the image comes pre-installed with the following software:

  1. Kernel and Drivers: The 6.6.18 kernel built by deepin from Eswin Computing, integrated with the common hardware drivers required for the EIC7700X, ensuring the system is ready to use out of the box.
  2. System Basics: Includes basic utilities such as sudo and networkmanager, facilitating system management and network configuration for users.
  3. Desktop Experience: The complete deepin Desktop Environment (DDE), which provides a comfortable operational experience for users. DDE is a desktop environment independently developed by deepin, known for its aesthetics, ease of use, and efficiency, and is highly favored by the Linux community.
  4. Practical Tools: Comes with common tools such as fastfetch, vim, and bash-completion, which are convenient for developers and advanced users.
  5. Office Software: Pre-installed with LibreOffice, providing a ready-to-use office environment.

Note: To reduce the size of the image for easier downloading and burning, only necessary applications are included in the image. Users can install other applications online using the pre-installed app store or the apt command. deepin has a rich software repository, allowing users to easily find the software they need.

deepin-ports SIG

The deepin  community has officially included devices based on the EIC7700X in the list of supported devices for deepin V23 RISC-V. It will continue to provide software updates and performance optimizations to ensure users have the best experience. The deepin-ports Special Interest Group (SIG) has been committed to porting the deepin operating system to more hardware platforms and architectures, providing ongoing maintenance and updates to create a richer deepin ecosystem experience for users.

During the adaptation process, deepin-ports has also built additional software repositories for RISC-V devices such as the EIC7700X to provide some customized features, such as the deepin custom kernel, further enhancing the user experience.

Recently, deepin has successfully adapted to the SpacemiT MUSE™ Box and MilkV Mars. It will continue to firmly support the development of the RISC-V ecosystem and expand support for more RISC-V devices, accelerating the improvement of the RISC-V architecture desktop ecosystem.

Version Release Plan

Due to the differences in user experience and stability between the RISC-V version and other architecture versions such as amd64/arm64, deepin V23 will release the RISC-V image according to the following schedule.

Version Type Description Target Audience.
Testing A version for hardware and software adaptation and preliminary testing, which may not have fully refined features and could have known issues. Primarily targeted at developers and early adopters.
Preview The ports architecture (riscv64/loong64) adaptation offers a preview version that has completed the development and testing of the main features, possessing a certain level of stability. Targeted at a broader range of developers and users who wish to experience new versions ahead of the general release.
Stable The stable version adapted for the official architecture (amd64/arm64) has undergone comprehensive testing and possesses a high degree of stability and reliability. Suitable for users who need it for daily use.

The version released this time is a Preview version. Subsequent Preview images will be updated based on the official version and the support status of the corresponding devices, and will be released irregularly. Testing images that use the latest unstable updates for testing purposes will also be released periodically.
