1、deepin 23 Official Release

On August 15, 2024, deepin 23 was officially released! deepin 23 features Linux 6.6 LTS and 6.9 mainline dual kernels, a new DDE, deep integration of AI capabilities, the launch of UOS AI Assistant and other AI applications, and over 200 product optimizations and new features including the “Linyaps” standalone toolkit, self-developed IDE, and atomic updates. After 9 iterations and 51 internal tests, and the development of 8 self-developed development tools, this release introduces numerous innovative features and meets user needs, providing an unprecedented personalized and intelligent operating experience.

3、deepin Home

    • In August 2024, deepin Home received a total of 733 user bug and demand feedbacks:596 bug reports
    • 137 demand reports
    • 64 bugs fixed
    • 118 system bugs confirmed

Fixed bugs include issues reported by users such as [Workspace switch ineffective], [Severe memory leak in dde-shell], [Linyaps version QQ input abnormality], etc.

 

SIG Group Progress in August

Key updates for August SIG Groups

  • deepin LoongArch SIG: Introduction of support for “Old World” firmware

Wang Miao from the AnT Open Source Community has achieved compatibility for “Old World” firmware booting with Linux kernel and GRUB bootloader. This supports booting and starting deepin V23 official version on early LoongArch devices such as Lenovo Kintian M540z and Guoguang 4C5LG servers, allowing these devices to enjoy enhanced software and hardware compatibility with the updated “New World” system. Additionally, the LoongArch SIG has adapted os-prober modifications for deepin, supporting dual-boot between deepin 23 (“New World”) and UOS V20 (“Old World”), providing users with more freedom in choosing their desired system environment.

This compatibility mechanism will further lower the entry barriers for the “New World” ecosystem, giving users more confidence, capability, and motivation to switch to the more powerful, compatible, and sustainable “New World” ecosystem.

Other group updates

1、deepin-ports SIG: Gradual support for hardware decoding and encoding on major RISCV devices.

2、deepin-sysdev-team: Continuous maintenance and updates of repository packages in collaboration with various SIGs.

3、DDE SIG: Integration of the final v23 DDE project for release, along with the deepin V23 release of V23 DDE.

4、DDE-port SIG: Continued progress on porting DDE to various distributions.

5、deepin-kernel SIG: Enhancement of existing hardware support. Better support for domestic hardware in the deepin kernel.

 

Community Events

In August, the deepin App Store added a total of 694 applications, including 239 Linyaps packages, 454 native deb applications, and 357 Wine applications, all of which are now available in the deepin App Store.

New applications added: 599, including 163 Linyaps applications in the deepin 23 App Store. Several new applications with AI features were introduced, including X-AI, Gaoding AI, and Xiao Zhi Search.

Updated applications: 94, with several key applications updated, including Bilibili, Evernote, Duolingo, DingTalk, Chrome-Google Browser, Thunderbird email client, etc.Feel free to continue recommending useful applications in the comments and forums.

 

Community Events

1、deepin 23 Release Event

On August 15, deepin 23 was successfully released! This version was launched with an online live stream both domestically and internationally, focusing on the theme “Born from AI, Significantly Different.” The update introduced a new DDE interface, AI For OS, “Ruyi Linyaps” application ecosystem, “deepin IDE,” and other important updates. A series of promotional contents and activities were designed for this release, with a total network exposure of 15.2 million+.

Open-source enthusiasts from China, Italy, the USA, Denmark, the Philippines, France, and the Netherlands shared their positive feedback on social media platforms: improvements were noted in performance, interface design, and new features, although there were also areas needing improvement, such as stability and compatibility. The community's proactive response and attitude towards fixing issues have also earned user recognition.

 

deepin Forum

In August, the deepin Forum published a total of 14,950 posts;

  • 2,224 topic threads were created;
  • Over 1,100 new friends joined the deepin
